Earth Day: Join the township in beautifying your home town by taking part in Earth Day. Since 1992 South Brunswick, with help from the New Jersey Clean Communities Program, has sponsored annual its volunteer litter clean up during the month of April to celebrate Earth Day locally. Year after year, dedicated individuals, families and groups have given of their valuable time in service to their community and have done a superb job in making South Brunswick a cleaner community. So far this year, 40 individuals and groups have committed to give one hour of their time to clean up litter within the Township. But there are still more areas that need cleaning. The township will supply volunteers with bags and gloves to get the job done. A commemorative tree planting and celebration is planned for volunteers from noon until 2 p.m. at Reichler Park (Senior Center in case of rain). Sacred cantata: The Choir from the First Baptist Church of Browns Mills will play in the historic Fresh Ponds Chapel, at the corner of Fresh Ponds and Davidsons Mill roads, at 7:30 p.m. The theme is The risen Savior, ending the season of Eastertide. Free.

Mother’s Day Adventure at the library: Enjoy Mother’s Day stories and then make a craft for the mommies in your life at 4:30 p.m. Kindergartners through third-graders are welcome to participate. Meet the author: Samantha Schutz, author of “I don’t want to be crazy” will be coming to the library to discuss her poetic memoir from 7 to 8 p.m. In her poetic memoir Ms. Schutz recalls when she first left home for college and subsequently discovered that, as pressures increased, she began to suffer severe anxiety attacks. This discovery began a journey of recovery and coping. Copies of the book to purchase are anticipated Ms. Schutz will autograph. Registration is not required. This is especially for teens in grades six through 12, but is open to all. The event will be in Program Room 2, the octagon room. Refreshments will be provided. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the South Brunswick Public Library.

African mission dinner: The sixth Annual African Dinner and African Arts Auction of St. Barnabas Episcopal church will be held at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for youth and $5 for children 12 and under. Food will be prepared by African members of the congregation. All proceeds will benefit St. Barnabas’ work to reduce alcoholism and the spread of HIV/AIDS in Kenya. Ham dinner: The Presbyterian Men’s Council of the Presbyterian Church of Jamesburg will sponsor a ham dinner, complete with salad, green beans almondine, baked potato, dessert and beverage. Christian rock: Christian rock music will be featured at the 5:30 p.m. communion service at the St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 142 Sand Hills Road. The next Top Model: Ever watch a modeling show and think I could do that? Get your chance at the South Brunswick Public Library in April. Teens in grades eight through 12 can register beginning April 17. Registration is limited to the first 15 teens registered and ends May 1. The models will be asked to pose for an artistic shot, a close-up face shot, appear in a film short of a “commercial” for the Library, and do a runway show wearing something dressy and something sporty/casual.
Audience votes will determine the winner. There will be several categories to shine in and an overall winner. The preliminary round will be “models only” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 6. The runway finale will be open to the public from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 9. Golf outing: St. Augustine of Canterbury School presents its Fourth Annual Golf Outing at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club in Bedminster Township. The cost is $160 per person or $600 per foursome. Fees include green fees, driving range, cart fees, breakfast and lunch buffet, all alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages, and valet parking. Registration, breakfast and driving range is from 7 to 8:30 a.m., Shotgun start is from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and lunch is from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit the students of St. Augustine of Canterbury School by providing additional resources to and enhancing vital programs of the school.

Pedals for Progress: Pedals for Progress will hold its 10th collection at South Brunswick High School, 750 Ridge Road, from 12 to 3 p.m. Items may be donated from now until June 6. This year we will collect used bikes, sewing machines, soccer balls and cleats. Items for collection should be accompanied by a check to “Pedals for Progress” to help cover shipping costs ($10 for bikes/sewing machines and $2 for soccer items).Tax deduction receipts are available. Actors sought: The South Brunswick Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking South Brunswick actors with special needs, 10 and up to present “The Pied Piper’s Wild West Show” a Taubenslag Production. Rehearsals are scheduled from June 8 to 12 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the SB Senior Center. The performance will be on Friday, June 12, at 7:30 p.m. Transportation is not provided. There is a $10 fee for the program. Space is limited. You must pre-register in person by April 30 at the SB Community Center on New Road, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
