MANVILLE: Miller, Puza, Basta star for Barry’s

   Barry’s Appliance beat Manville American Legion 7-5 in the 11-12-year-old division on Opening Day of MYAL baseball.
   Max Miller pitched six innings for the win with 12 strikeouts and no walks. Miller also lead the team in hitting going 3-for-3 and Steven Nash scored twice. Seven other players each had a hit in the game for Barry’s. Troy Armstrong, Bobby Demeter, Carl Imhoff and Brian Kuhlman each had two hits apiece for the Legion team.
   Barry’s Appliance improved to 2-0 with a 7-6 comeback win over the Raritan Braves. Kyle Puza pitched very well for the first five innings but got into trouble in the top half of the sixth giving up five runs. Puza had 10 strikeouts in the game. Paul Basta came on to get the final two outs of the inning striking out one of three batters he faced to get the win.
   Barry’s came back in the bottom half of the sixth inning with four runs to win. Puza had an RBI single, Doug Moreno tied the score with a big hit that scored two runs and Chris Garcia had the winning hit that scored Jared Matisak, who had walked. Basta also had two hits and scored twice. Mark Mihalko added an RBI single in the fifth inning.
