A Lawrence Township police officer has been indicted by a Mercer County grand jury for allegedly stealing money from the Lawrence Township Police Benevolent Association No. 119, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
Patrolman Todd D. Sparks, 42, of Hamilton, was indicted Friday on one count of theft for failing to turn over approximately $8,000 to the Lawrence Township PBA between Dec. 20, 2007, and Oct. 8, 2008, said Casey DeBlasio, the spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office.
Patrolman Sparks, who is a PBA delegate, has been suspended without pay since his arrest in October 2008. The police officer, who is a 16-year veteran of the Lawrence Township Police Department, is paid $95,777.
Patrolman Sparks could be sentenced to three to five years in prison if he is convicted. He is free on his own recognizance.
