PLUMSTED: POLICE BEAT

Police responded Sunday to the Wawa on Route 539 on a report of the theft of a wallet containing $470 in cash, a senior citizen boarding pass and family photos.
Police said they arrived at 5:58 p.m. to the store, where the victim told them someone took his wallet after he set it down on the counter so he could put change into a donation bin. The victim forgot to pick it back up and walked out the door, and returned several minutes later to find it gone, police reported.
A surveillance tape from the store showed a white man in his mid-40s, about 6 feet tall with gray hair and a gray shirt, pick up the wallet and pocket it, and then walk to another register to pay for his items with money from another pocket, police said. Shortly after he left the store, video from the gas pumps shows a purple Mazda Miata convertible with a brown top leave the scene, but its license plate was not visible on the tape, police reported.
Steven Fennimore of Cream Ridge was charged April 18 with careless driving.
Police said he told them he was not paying attention when he crashed into the rear of a car making a left turn, damaging the rear of that vehicle and the front of his own. No injuries were reported.
