Air Conditioning Season is Around the Corner
New Jersey Homeowners Go Green for Less with Federal Tax Credit, New Jersey Clean Energy Programs and Equipment Manufacturer Rebates
PRINCETON, NJ—(April 29, 2009) —By taking advantage of federal tax credits through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, New Jersey(NJ) Clean Energy programs and manufacturer rebates on high-efficiency air conditioning equipment, homeowners can save thousands of dollars while lowering their energy bills and reducing their carbon footprints.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provides tax incentives for homeowners to replace dated, inefficient equipment with higher-efficiency air conditioning and heating systems. Homeowners can claim 30 percent of the cost (up to $1,500) for qualifying high-efficiency central air conditioners, hot water heaters, furnaces and boilers and air source heat pumps in tax years 2009 and 2010. More information is available at www.energystar.gov/taxcredits.
NJ Clean Energy’s COOLAdvantage program provides PSE&G customers $100 rebates for qualifying energy-efficient central air conditioners. They suggest when selecting a contractor to be sure they are North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certified. NATE is the leading national certification program for technicians. More information can be found at the NJ Clean Energy web site www.njcleanenergy.com.
In addition to federal tax credits and state programs, air conditioning equipment manufacturers such as Trane and Carrier offer seasonal rebate programs.
For example, Carrier’s Spring CoolCash program provides consumers up to $1,200 back on qualifying replacement air conditioning systems, plus a 12-month Same-as-Cash offer. For details, visit www.residential.carrier.com.
Trane, another air conditioning manufacturer, is offering customers who buy a qualifying high-efficiency system this springup to $1,000 cash rebateor16 month/same as cash financing. Visit www.trane.com/residential for details.
Federal tax incentives and NJ Clean Energy programs coupled with equipment manufacturer rebates can save homeowners up to $2,800 on new, high-efficiency air conditioning systems, plus recurring savings in their energy bills. While some paperwork is involved, working with a qualified contractor, such as Redding’s Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning in Princeton, NJ, eases the process.
“A lot of people couldn’t afford to replace their dated, inefficient heating and air conditioning systems due to the economy,” says Michael Redding, Manager for Redding’s. “These new incentives lower the cost of high-efficiency systems, making them a viable, cost-effective option. Homes become more comfortable, their value is increased, while customers see their utility bills and carbon footprints reduced. It’s a win-win situation.”
