WARREN – If you are going to be cleaning out your garage, shed or other storage areas this year, you can dispose of hazardous items at the next Somerset County Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day Saturday, May 9. Hazardous items can be dropped off at the Warren Township Public Works Garage, located at 1 Bardy Road, in Warren from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Saturday drop-off events offer a convenient way for residents and farmers to dispose of household chemicals and pesticides that cannot be thrown out with regular trash.
No registration is necessary, but proof of residency is required. The program is free to county residents.
Tires and used consumer electronics (computers and televisions) will not be accepted as part of the Household Hazardous Waste program, but are collected on the First Saturday of the Month from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Somerset County Recycling Center, located at 40 Polhemus Lane in Bridgewater.
Additional Household Hazardous Waste drop-off days will be held June 13, Aug. 1, Sept. 12 and Oct. 24 at different locations.
In March, 735 county residents and five schools brought in approximately 40,166 pounds of hazardous materials for proper disposal. In addition, 105car and wet-cell batteries, 495 gallons of used motor oil, 110 gallons of antifreeze, 9,200 pounds of dry-cell batteries and 92 propane tanks were collected.
For further information about the types or quantities of materials that are accepted, contact the Somerset County Division of Solid Waste Management at (908) 231-7031 or [email protected].
