JAMESBURG — Sometimes you can’t quit for trying.
Karen Zimmerman, who resigned her seat on the Jamesburg Board of Education earlier this year only to be elected as a write-in candidate for the seat she had just vacated, was officially appointed to her old seat by the Jamesburg Board of Education on Monday.
Ms. Zimmerman had four write-in votes at the April 21 election, but actually was not the highest vote-getter.
Daniel Hansen received 10 write-in votes, but the school attorney, [mrh: NAME: ]decided under the state’s nepotism rules he would be unable to serve since his wife is an aide in the district whose contract is renewed yearly.
[mrh: certified?: ]Ms. Zimmerman said she returned to the school board because it was in the best interest of Jamesburg.
”I decided it would probably be in the best interests to do it because I was familiar with the board, and I have all my training. When they offered it to me, I said ‘yes, I would.’ “
Ms. Zimmerman said she hope the school board is able to fill the seat next year when it becomes a three-year term again.
”When the one-year term is up, when it’s back for a three-year term, hopefully, in that time, they’ll find somebody interested,” she said.
