MANVILLE: Andrew Zangara remains school board president

By Eileen Oldfield, Staff Writer
Recently re-elected Board of Education member Andrew Zangara was renamed president for the next year at Monday’s reorganization meeting, while Heidi Alles will serve as the group’s vice president.
Mr. Zangara served as board president last year, and served as vice president during 2007 and last year. It will be Ms. Alles’ first term as vice president.
The board designated Ken Lessing as delegate to the Somerset County Educational Services Commission, and appointed Ned Panfile as alternate for the post. Both Mr. Lessing and Mr. Panfile held the positions last year.
Joe Lukac will serve as delegate to the Somerset County School Boards Association, and board newcomer Cathy Wiedwald will serve as an alternate. Mr. Zangara and Jeanne Lombardino continue as delegate and alternate, respectively, to the New Jersey State School Boards Association.
The board approved a slight change to its meeting schedule, moving a meeting from May 19 to May 18. The original date conflicted with a Somerset County School Boards Association meeting, noted by Mr. Zangara, and an event happening in town, noted by Mr. Panfile.
Business Administrator and Board Secretary Richard Reilly said other meeting dates could change throughout the year, if needed.
Meetings will continue to be held Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. in the Alexander Batcho Intermediate School Media Center.
