PLAINSBORO — The township will hold its 30th annual Founders Day celebration on Sunday, a commemoration of the township’s incorporation in May 1919.
The celebration will begin with the kick-off parade, which leaves from Waters Edge Park at 12:30 p.m. and is scheduled to arrive at the Municipal Complex on Plainsboro Road at about 1 p.m.
Festival activities on the municipal lawn will continue until 5 p.m., and the main stage will feature entertainment from 1 to 5 p.m.
At the opening of the celebration on the main stage, the U.S. Marines, West Windsor-Plainsboro high schools north and south marching bands, and the Plainsboro Police Honor Guard will perform the National Anthem. The performance will be followed by the opening ceremonies and a welcome from Mayor Pete Cantu.
Other performances on the main stage will include the jazz ensembles from the West Windsor-Plainsboro high schools north and south, the Kids Corner Co-Op Singers, West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North SAASA Dance, Ghungroo, Gabe Manak Band and Yingchao Zhang One Man Band. On the second stage, there will be three performances by the Give and Take Jugglers.
Further entertainment on the grounds will be provided by the Wahoo Medicine Show & Flying Flea Circus, Mad Science, Plainsboro Chinese School Waist Drummers, Kids Music Round, Giant Chess, the Doodle Bop Wiggle & Dance Puppet Theatre as well as several martial arts groups.
Ongoing activities will include basketball hoops, chess, football toss, fast pitch, miniature golf, moon bounce, ring toss, face painting, arts and crafts and more.
There will also be exhibits by the Plainsboro Historical Society, the Central Jersey Antique Car Club, the New Jersey Audubon Society, Plainsboro Conservation/Recycling, Plainsboro Then & Now in Photographs, Chinese Calligraphy, Plainsboro Township Today, and the U.S. Marines.
Concession stands will be operated by nonprofit community groups, including the Plainsboro Library, Plainsboro Rescue Squad, 1st Presbyterian Church, Kids Corner, Princeton Alliance Church Chinese Youth Group, Knights of Columbus, Gospel Fellowship Church, Boy Scout Troop 168 and 759, Girl Scouts 70145, Plainsboro Police Senior Officers and the West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South Science Olympiad.Event parking is available on Morgan Lane at the Enterprise Corporate Complex, located across from the Municipal Building.
Police recommend drivers find alternate routes as a result of planned road closures for the festivities.
There will be no street parking and no traffic movement on Pond View Drive during the parade lineup, beginning at 11:15 a.m., according to police.
Pond View Drive, Edgemere Avenue and intersecting side streets, Plainsboro Road to the Municipal Complex, and Dey Road will be subject to closings and detours during the parade activities from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., according to township police.
Plainsboro Road between the Rescue Squad building and Enterprise Drive will be closed through 5:15 p.m., according to police.
