The New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners (NJAWBO) has announced the appointment of three Monmouth Ocean Chapter members on the state executive board. The installation of the NJAWBO 2009-10 officers took place June 3 at the NJAWBO’s annual conference.

Those members and their positions are: Jackie Berman, Cartridge Renewal Systems, Manalapan, vice president of membership; Judy DeFeo, JADDE Financial Solutions Inc., Marlboro, vice president of finance; and Dawn Nakash, Daybreak Marketing Services Inc., Jackson, vice president of nominations.

The NJAWBO is the oldest statewide organization in New Jersey with a mission to address the concerns and issues of business ownership by women. The organization’s objectives are to encourage and support business ownership by women, enable women business owners to network, provide a legislative voice for the interests of women-owned businesses, and provide entrepreneurial training and assistance.

Bart Oates, former New York Giants center and winner of three Super Bowl rings, will team up with Investors Savings Bank for the “Tackle That Mortgage” home loan event. Following his NFL career, Oates earned a Juris Doctor degree from Seton Hall University Law School and now runs All-Pro Title Insurance Company.

“Tackle that Mortgage” is a program for individuals and families who want to make informed decisions about mortgages and mortgage refinancing, as well as home equity loans and lines of credit. It will be held on June 13 at the Investors Savings Bank’s Marlboro branch, 450 Union Hill Road, Marlboro. Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, podiatrist Dr. Hal Ornstein is one of two physicians elected to receive the 2009 Podiatry Management Lifetime Achievement Award and will be inducted into the Podiatry Management’s Podiatry Hall of Fame. Ornstein is the 26th podiatrist to receive this honor, and is chairman of the American Academy of Podiatric Practice Management.

Ornstein has a long list of accomplishments which date back to his days in medical school. As a student at Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, Ornstein served as cochair of the American Podiatric Medical Students Association and was also the liaison to the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine. After graduating, he also helped to create a post-graduate association.

Ornstein completed his internship at the University of Southern California Medical Center, and completed two residencies — one at the University of Southern California and the other at the University of California, Los Angeles, Medical Center.

Ornstein later rejuvenated the membership of the American Academy of Podiatric Practice Management, which now has 1,200 members. He is currently a contributing editor of the American Podiatric Management Association News; is a member of Podiatry Management Magazine’s editorial board, and serves as chairman of the American Academy of Podiatric Practice Management.

Ornstein has a private practice in Howell. He and his wife, Anna, reside in Howell with their sons, Tyler and Zachary.

Ornstein will receive his Lifetime Achievement award during an awards ceremony at a special luncheon on July 31 as part of the APMA Scientific Meeting in Toronto, Canada.

The Learning Experience in Manalapan, 65 Route 33, will host a Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 14 to celebrate the grand opening of the school. The free event will feature a ribbon cutting by Mayor Richard Klauber at noon and a butterfly release in addition to activities for children. Darren M. Gelber of Manalapan, a shareholder and certified criminal attorney at Wilentz, Goldman and Spitzer, P.A., was presented with the 2009 Lawyer Achievement Award by the Middlesex County Bar Association at its annual installation of officers and trustees dinner. The award is given annually to the bar member whose actions best exemplify what the practice of law is all about and serves as a model for others to emulate.

Gelber concentrates his practice in the area of criminal law and civil rights law and serves as co-chair of the Criminal Law/Civil Rights Team. He is an MCBA board trustee and a past recipient of MCBA’s Criminal Trial Attorney of the Year Award.

Gelber serves as vice president of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey. He is a frequent guest commentator on CourtTV (now known as Tru TV In Session) and has served as an adjunct professor at St. John’s University.

Stewart A. Berkowitz, MD, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, was recently appointed to the State Board of Medical Examiners by Gov. Jon Corzine.

Norine E. Kelly of Freehold was recently reappointed to the Monmouth County Board of Elections by Gov. Jon Corzine.

The Freehold LeTip chapter, a networking group with more than 60 members, is seeking new members for available categories. Only one member per category is allowed.
