The South Brunswick Public Library is in search of the next Tarantino or Spielberg.
As part of its 2009 South Brunswick Film and Video Festival on Dec. 12, the library is looking for young filmmakers between the ages of 14 and 24 to submit a short film for the festival by Nov. 30.
”We based this on the Princeton Library doing something similar so we wanted to try it,” said Young Adult Librarian Saleena Davidson. “We think it’s a great idea and the teens at the library are excited about seeing locally made films.”
There is no cost to enter and there are no residency requirements. The films must be original works and run no longer than 20 minutes. Films must be submitted and formatted to play as DVDs.
The films should be for a teen and adult audience and will be judged by a committee of librarians and student volunteers.
Films will be evaluated on visual and audio quality, defined sense of story and how well the film conveys the filmmaker’s point of view. Filmmakers whose work is selected to be included will be invited to introduce their film at the festival and to participate with the audience in a question and answer session after their film is screened.
There are no cash prizes or awards, but the filmmakers will get certificates acknowledging that their entries were selected.
”We want to invite the filmmakers to come in and tell us about the process and where they got their ideas,” Ms. Davidson said.
”We’re really excited about this and hope to get a lot of entries.”
