Brick Historical Society sets fall events

The Brick Township Historical Society has announced its schedule of fall events.

• The first meeting of the new season will be held 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Herbertsville Firehouse, 601 Herbertsville Road, Brick. The meeting will include a presentation by Kati Brower, who will depict a Plymouth Pilgrim. The public is welcome to attend.

• The annual Breakfast at the Inn will be held Sept. 27 in two seatings, 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., at the Havens Homestead Museum, 521 Herbertsville Road. The event will recreate breakfast as it was back in the 1800s, when the museum was a tavern and an inn. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the museum from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays and noon to 2 p.m. Sundays, except for Labor Day weekend. Call and leave a message, 732-785-2500.

• An afternoon tea will be held 1-3 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Havens Homestead Museum. Costumed members will serve tea sandwiches, pastries, fruit and other items to complement an array of teas and lemonade. The cost is $20. For a reservation, call 732- 892-9480.

• A trip to Staten Island, N.Y., to visit the Snug Harbor historical and cultural complex, the Chinese Scholars Garden and the Alice Austin House will be held Oct. 17. The cost is $60. Although the trip is sold out, a waiting list is being drawn up; call 732-458-7507.

• Author and New Egypt resident Karen Riley will be the guest speaker at the 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10 meeting. Riley will discuss “Voices in the Pines,” a book of true stories about the New Jersey Pine Barrens. The public is welcome to attend.
