The New Jersey Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC) at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) will begin free one-to-one management counseling at the Middlesex County Administration Building in New Brunswick this month.

The NJSBDC network is the premier provider of comprehensive help services and programs for small business in New Jersey. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, has received a $5,000 grant from Columbia Bank, Fair Lawn, through the Columbia Bank Foundation. The community grant funded the purchase of a new vital signs monitor for the hospital’s oncology department in Rahway. The Foundation provides support grants in the areas of affordable housing programs, community investment and economic development opportunities, financial literacy and educational opportunities, and health and human services.

Dr. Marc Mappen, historian and former Rutgers University dean, will discuss his book “There’s More to New Jersey Than the Sopranos,” 4 p.m. Sept. 13 at Barnes & Noble, 869 Route 1 south, North Brunswick. Mappen will sign copies of the book at the free launch party. In his book, Mappen refutes “the endless stream of Jersey jokes” and discusses New Jersey’s numerous inventions, innovations and “contributions to the modern world.” The event is free and open to the public.
