ALLENTOWN — The borough will continue its shared services agreement with neighboring Robbinsville in Mercer County for public works supervision and related services.

At the Oct. 13 Borough Council meeting, a resolution authorizing the agreement passed unanimously.

According to the resolution, Robbinsville will provide the borough with a general supervisor to schedule and oversee the daily duties of the public works staff. Robbinsville will charge Allentown $26,600 per year, which is 50 percent of the supervisor’s salary.

The general supervisor will spend two morning hours assigning duties, and two afternoon hours assuring completion of daily duties and coordinating for the following day. The supervisor is considered a “working” supervisor who will assist borough employees with their duties when necessary.

Robbinsville will bill the borough an hourly rate for any additional staff or equipment needed to complete a public works job, but would have to receive authorization from the borough prior to doing so. The township would charge the borough $50 per hour for each use of equipment, such as a dump truck, trash truck, or backhoe and $20 per hour per laborer.

Robbinsville will provide the borough with itemized monthly bills. The borough must pay the township within 30 days of each date of billing. Both municipalities would have to take responsibility for their own acts of negligence regarding New Jersey Tort Claims.
