Mischief night party planned at library

Calling all teenage werewolves, young wizards and witches, and all other spooky and fantastic creatures! Put on your ghoulish best and come to the ultimate Mischief Night party at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan, on Oct. 30.

The festivities for students in grades 6-12 will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run until 10 p.m. Admission is free.

A DJ and MC will provide music, two tarot card readers will tell fortunes, and aspiring rock and rollers will have a chance to play the new Beatles “Rock Band” game. There will be costume contests and games designed by the Monmouth County Park System’s Outdoors Adventure volunteers.

Pizza and soda will be provided, along with a professional chocolate fountain (along with treats for dipping) and a create-your-own-goodie bag bar stocked with Halloween favorites.

All party participants must come in costume and must preregister with the library at 732-431-7222, or by e-mail to [email protected]. All party-goers must be dropped off at the library between 6-6:30 p.m.

To ensure security at the event, party participants must stay inside the library until 10 p.m., unless there is an emergency, according to librarian and event organizer Stephenie Acosta.

“Participants will not be allowed to leave and come back,” Acosta said.

The Mischief Night party will be the first event for the library’s new Young Adult department, according to Acosta. The department’s goal is to draw more teens into the libraries.

“We want to create a generation of library users who will then pass on the love of libraries to their children,” Acosta said.

Other Young Adult programs planned for the upcoming months include a beginner guitar workshop, Young Adult author talks, a New Moon Celebration, and Anime art instruction.
