JACKSON — The Vista Site is now the home of Jackson’s new compost facility.
Located at 334 Jackson Mills Road, a quarter-mile east of the intersection of Jackson Mills and County Line roads, the new facility will be available Wednesday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
The Jackson Mills Road facility will be closed on holidays.
The former compost site on Kierych Drive is now permanently closed.
“The Vista Compost Facility received approval from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to be opened temporarily for a period of two years,” Mayor Mike Reina said.
The site has been approved to hold a capacity of 10,000 cubic yards of leaves, which will be composted and given free to residents during hours of operation.
Plans are being made to open a new ecological facility in the Legler section of Jackson.
“This temporary two-year period for the new compost site will give us time to complete our applications and receive approval for the planned new ecological recycling center,” Reina said.
