A Stephen Way resident was charged with several drug offenses last week after a two-month long narcotics investigation during which the defendant allegedly sold marijuana to an undercover detective.
Robert Kennedy, 21, was charged with distribution of less than one ounce of marijuana, distribution of marijuana within 1,000 feet of school property, distribution of more than one ounce of marijuana and possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana.
According to Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne Forrest, Mr. Kennedy first met with an undercover detective Sept. 28 on Route 206 and sold him less than one ounce of marijuana. The transaction, Mr. Forrest said, was within 1,000 feet of the Hillsborough Elementary School on Route 206.
About a month later, on Oct. 21, Mr. Kennedy negotiated another sale of more than one ounce of marijuana to the undercover detective in the parking lot of Walgreens in Franklin, Mr. Forrest said.
At 10:05 p.m. Oct. 21, Mr. Forrest said, task force members arrested Mr. Kennedy for the drug offenses. At that time, Mr. Kennedy was found to be in possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana as well.
The street value of all the marijuana seized in this investigation is approximately $550, Mr. Forrest said.
Mr. Kennedy was lodged in Somerset County Jail with bail to be set.
