Coyle in the hunt to become next Edison mayor

While there may be some more well-known candidates in the race to be the next mayor of Edison, Joseph A. Coyle says he brings plenty to the table.

The 40-year-old says he is running with the Leaders Don’t Wait Party because he wants to see a departure from the usual cluster of people running for elected office in town.

“I was with the Democratic Club of Edison for 13 years, and it really is not an organization that’s open to pure democracy,” Coyle said. “I really feel like I wanted to get out on my own and take a shot at helping this town. Really, the process is just not a very fair and open one.”

Coyle calls himself “a true workhorse, and not just a show horse,” somebody who will get the job done instead of just talking about it. If elected, Coyle says he would like to see term limits of either two terms or six years imposed. And like many other candidates, Coyle also would like to see taxes reduced.

“To just say that stabilization is good enough, that’s not correct,” Coyle said. “We need to strategically try and reduce taxes. The seniors that live in Edison cannot afford to live here. This is a blue-collar town, and things do need to be changed.”

Coyle also says that environmentally, “Edison is very far behind” and that the township needs to become “greener.”

“Overall, we need to fix things around here,” Coyle said. “I want to be part of the movement to help things get back to the way they used to be.”
