Students from Maple Place School in Oceanport painted Halloween scenes on the store windows of businesses in the Village Center. Their artwork made the center of Oceanport look festive and in the Halloween mood and the students were treated to lunch courtesy of Enzo's Pizza. The project was a cooperative effort by the Oceanport Quality of Life Committee working with Maple Place School art teacher Kelly Jakubowski and the stores in Village Center. The Garden Club of Fair Haven will meet at noon Nov. 4 at the youth center. “Mushroom Mania” will be presented by Dorothy Smullen, past president of both the New Jersey Mycological Association and the North East Mycological Federation. The presentation will include slides and a discussion. All are welcome. For more information, call 732-530-3642. The club’s tip of the month for chrysanthemums that have stopped blooming is to cut stems back close to the ground and dispose of stems and all dropped and dried leaves and branches. It is also not too late to plant spring-blooming bulbs.

Charles Harris, director of music at First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank-Tower Hill, 255 Harding Road, Red Bank, will give an organ concert 7 p.m. Nov. 15. It will feature concertos by Handel, Mozart and others. A string ensemble will accompany Harris. A free-will offering will be taken to benefit the organ repair fund. The Kortney Rose Foundation (KRF), Oceanport, has been selected as a participating charity for New York Road Runners’ ING New York City Marathon 2009 on Nov. 1. Team Kortney consists of 20 runners who chose to run for The Kortney Rose Foundation because they have either been affected by childhood cancer or were simply inspired by Kortney’s story. A Taste of Ocean Grove is back by popular demand in Ocean Grove 5-8 p.m. Nov. 6. Tickets are $15 each, and must be purchased by Nov. 3. Eleven eateries will offer a tastings from their menus; the tour will include restaurants, coffee shops, a cheese shop, bakery and a tea room. Music will be provided by Paul Marino Band, and the town’s stores will also be open. The event is sponsored by Ocean Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and Savor Dining Club.
