Official supports fundraising effort

JACKSON — Township Council PresidentMike Kafton supported Nancy Brinker, founding chair, Susan. G. Komen for the Cure, during Brinker’s visit to ABC-TV’s “Good Morning America” to draw attention to the global fight against breast cancer.

“I am humbled by this opportunity to help highlight the ongoing need for breast cancer research and to bring awareness of the far-reaching, and very often devastating effects of breast cancer on all of us. Virtually, no one goes untouched. We all have a loved one, be it mother, daughter, sister or friend, who has suffered from this insidious illness,” Kafton said.

Kafton had the opportunity to speak with “Good Morning America” co-host Robin Roberts, herself a breast cancer survivor. He noted that women at the Westlake adult community in Jackson have raised more than $200,000 for breast cancer research and awareness, according to a press release.

Jackson’s participation in the Komen Foundation is not limited to Westlake, but has been enhanced by the other active adult communities as well as the local public schools, which have raised tens of thousands of dollars over the years. Additionally, several of Jackson’s Girl Scout troops have made breast cancer awareness their focus and have also collected money for this worthwhile cause, according to a press release.
