Reader recalls a simpler time in Brick Township

Iread the recent article on the old Foodtown site and wish to add some thoughts to it.

I have seen many articles in the local and county papers, with quotes from area residents. Yes, the site once housed a Foodtown, and prior to that it was a Bradlees. However, I am barely 50 years old, have been in this area my entire life, and wonder if anyone else remembers that site also housed the Family Circle department store in the ’60s? Additionally, at the front of that property was a fast food hamburger restaurant named Wetson’s. Anyone remember that?

If my grandparents were still alive, they would be able to provide stories of this area from when they bought a bungalow in Shore Acres at the end of the ’30s Depression.

In my lifetime, I remember these things from the Brick of my youth … Hurricane HarborMarina off Princeton Avenue, state police barracks on Brick Boulevard (as we did not have our own force yet), no traffic lights on Brick Boulevard, Britt’s and Two Guys department stores, Surfmen Drum & Bugle Corps (I was member), Mr. Steak restaurant, and on and on.

Surely there are residents who remember these things from the history of our town.
