Seminar to offer info on gaining job at joint base

Applying for a job at a military installation for the first time might be daunting to a civilian. Hoping to make that process a little easier, Ocean County Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari has announced that the Ocean County Board of Freeholders in cooperation with the Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library will host a basic seminar on “Jobs at the Joint Base – How toApply for a Job with the Military” on Nov. 9 starting at 6 p.m. in the Mancini Room at 101 Washington St., Toms River.

Vicari said, “Millions of dollars will be flowing into the newly established Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (located partially in Ocean County). We want our county residents to have an opportunity to apply for the jobs that are available, but how does one find what jobs are available and how does one apply?

“We are fortunate to have Col. Gina Grosso, commander of the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and 87th Air Base Wing, as a speaker. She will be joined by Raquel Cajudo from McGuire Air Force Base, who will conduct an informational job workshop,” Vicari said.

Those attending will be introduced to the federal job registry usajobs.gov. A small group follow-up session will be held in the library computer lab at 7:30 p.m. to provide additional support in navigating the job application process. If interest warrants it and that session is filled to capacity, others will be scheduled, according to a press release from Ocean County.

Registration for the free Nov. 9 session is required by calling the library at 732-349- 6200 or by going online at www.theoceancountylibrary. org. The session is open to the public and will specifically target those interested in learning what jobs are available at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and how one goes about applying for a position.

Cajudo, a community readiness consultant at the Warfighter and Family Readiness Center, brings 15 years of experience in working with the federal government in positions such as an employment readiness program manager and now the career focus program subject matter expert. She provides assistance through employment-related programs and services to military service members, their families and civilian employees.

Vicari said, “Ms. Cajudo conducts classes in job search skills, résumé writing, preparing for a job interview, spouse employment and, most importantly in this instance, the federal job application process. This workshop is a companion session to one we sponsored last year to help businesses seeking military contracts, but this time it is for individual jobs.”
