Wants mayor to know that new garbage schedule has no merit

Bravo, Mayor David Stahl. Thanks to your once-aweek garbage pickup in East Brunswick, my garage looks and smells like the Edgeboro landfill, and families of mice are happily eating my rotting leftovers.

In case you haven’t been outdoors since Labor Day, the daytime temps have hovered around 65-75 degrees (until very recently). To me, that signifies warm temperatures, which only enhance the smell of week-old chicken, potatoes, tuna fish sandwiches, etc.

My house only has a one-car garage so we are forced to share our many garbage bags and cans with the rest of our household excess items. We have lived in East Brunswick for 22 years, and my parents have lived here for 52 years, with twice-a-week garbage pickup and no problems in all that time. Not one East Brunswick taxpayer got to vote on this decision, and there were many complaints voiced over this ridiculous change. We may save $360,000 per year with once-a-week pickup, but where will that money go to help each and every taxpayer in East Brunswick?

You mentioned that people may recycle more, which is a laugh since recycling is only picked up once every two weeks. I need a separate garage just for all of my recycling and garbage. You also mentioned that it would be less wear and tear on our streets and better for air quality if the garbage trucks only came down our streets once a week. Another laugh. The amount of idling that the garbage trucks would have to do to pick up twice as much garbage in front of everyone’s house would spew forth even more toxins in our atmosphere.

If this is any indication of the positive changes for East Brunswick, then I shudder to think of any negative ones. Maybe we should bring our extra garbage over to your house to sit until the next pickup.
