The following is notification of the environmental investigation and cleanup that is taking place at Volvo of Edison (formerly Raritan Oil Co.), 401 Route 1 south, Edison, block 235-A, lots 25, 26,27,28,29, and 63-J, block 239-A, lot 1-M. NJDEP preferred identification No. 002512:
In accordance with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) regulations for “Notification and Public Outreach,” Long Motor Co. is required to provide information related to environmental conditions and remedial activities being conducted at Volvo.
The site, formerly a gas station, was developed in 2002 as a car dealership. The investigation to date has focused mainly on soil and groundwater impacts associated with the historical operations on-site. Petroleum related compounds and metals were detected in the soil and groundwater. Long Motor Co. has determined that the contamination in the groundwater has migrated from the site.
Long Motor Co. will continue conducting investigative and remedial activities in accordance with the requirements of the NJDEP to address the contaminants detected. The persons conducting the remediation will be evaluating the environmental impacts from the site to ensure that any impacts from the contamination are promptly mitigated.
