The Boy Scout Troop 55 of Crosswicks completed their 2009 Scouting for Food drive on Saturday, Nov. 21. Residents of Crosswicks, Chesterfield, Sykesville and the surrounding areas answered the call and helped the Boy Scouts of Troop 55, Crosswicks in their efforts. When it was all added up, the scouts of Troop 55 collected 1,948 food items. Two pick-up trucks delivered the food items to the Burlington County Council Scout Service Center in Westhampton. Waiting at the Scout Service center where four local food pantries who gladly unloaded the trucks. The scouts of Troop 55 would like to thank all who contributed. You made the search for food easier by leaving donations of canned goods, bottled goods, powdered goods and baby formula out on your porches, front doors and mailboxes. Troop 55 of the Burlington County Council, Boy Scouts of America meets every Wednesday evening at the Crosswicks Community House. They provide a program that helps develop boys into honorable men through character development, citizenship training, outdoor experiences, mental and physical fitness. The mission of the Boy Scouts is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

Congratulations to the Chesterfield Township U-12 & U-14 boys/girls teams that competed in the recent Midlands Soccer Tournament at Northern Burlington County Regional High School on Nov. 21-22. The U-12 girls competed strongly and although went only 1-3, were in every game. The U-14 boys and girls both lost 1-0 heartbreakers in the Finals. For the boys it was there only loss of the year and a team that Ken Tomei molded to not only be winners but have fun at the same time. The girls team was a combination of girls from four townships that were coached brilliantly by Mike Mills (a team he called the one he was the most proud of in 16 years of coaching). The U-12 boys team won their tournament beating Robbinsville. Jason Hawkins coached a team that was comprised of 19 players and made them the best in all the Midland competing towns. An accomplishment of this magnitude by our town by all these teams is spectacular. Thank you to these coaches, these players, parents and all in the community that support them. You made us all proud by giving it your best!
