Frank Gibson of Freehold has stepped down from the Monmouth County Library Commission after several decades of service.
At the Dec. 9 meeting of the Monmouth County Library Commission, Monmouth County Freeholder Lillian G. Burry presented a certificate of recognition to Gibson in appreciation of his contributions to Monmouth County. She commended him and acknowledged his 41 years of service.
According to a press release from the county, during his tenure, Gibson was instrumental in the creation of the countywide library system, the expansion and construction of the library headquarters in Manalapan and the construction of the Eastern Branch Library in Shrewsbury.
During that time the Monmouth County Library System has become the largest circulating library system in New Jersey, according to the press release.
Gibson is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and served the nation as a naval officer during World War II. He began his career in public service as the mayor of Freehold Borough.
Gibson joined the Monmouth County Library Commission on Jan. 1, 1968, and has served as vice chairman since 1979.
