More than 100 airmen from the Air Mobility Command’s 621st Contingency ResponseWing (CRW) stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Ocean County have deployed to Haiti in response to a deadly earthquake in that Caribbean nation.
A 7.0 magnitude earthquake demolished buildings and made a shambles of the country on Jan. 12.
“Our focus is getting the right kind of aid, as quickly as possible, to help the people of Haiti,” said Col. Brian O’Connor, 621st CRW commander.
O’Connor said the 621st CRW has been trained for rapid deployment into austere environments in order to get supplies to people who need them.
Upon arrival, the team joined with the Army to establish an aerial port that can efficiently distribute all the humanitarian aid that is coming into the country.
The unit includes a variety of specialties such as aerial port specialists, maintainers, communications specialists, and command and control personnel.
