SOUTH BRUNSWICK: School board candidate kits available

By Davy James, Staff Writer
Candidate kits are now available for residents interested in becoming a member of the South Brunswick Board of Education. Those interested need to submit their nominating petitions by 4 p.m. March 1.
The candidate kit provides information from the New Jersey School Boards Association. It includes a sample nominating petition and information about the legal qualifications for school board candidacy and the role of a school board member. Information about the New Jersey School Ethics Act, important dates related to the school election process and other pertinent information related to the election are included in the packet.
To become a member of the Board of Education, candidates must be able to read and write English, hold U.S. citizenship, be registered to vote in South Brunswick Township and be a resident of the township for at least one year. Prospective candidates must have no interest in any contract or claim against the school board and cannot hold office in municipal government.
Three, three-year seats on the Board of Education are up for election as the terms of Harry Delgado, Deborah Taylor and Anna Tupe are expiring. The three incumbents could not be reached as of press time to confirm whether they would be seeking re-election.
Prospective candidates can obtain a candidate kit at the Board of Education office at 231 Black Horse Lane, Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., except when the office is closed due to inclement weather or school holidays.
For more information, call Marcia Garitano in the business office at 732-297-7800, ext. 3110.
The annual school election will be held April 20.
