TINTON FALLS — The borough’s public library celebrated the retirement of one library director and the arrival of a new director at the beginning of the New Year.
Rosemary Tunnicliffe retired at the end of December after a career at the library that spanned two decades.
The Borough Council recognized Tunnicliffe’s contributions to the library and the community at the council’s first meeting of 2010 with a proclamation in her honor.
The new library director is Ellen O’Brien, a longtime Tinton Falls resident with experience in both public and academic libraries. She has worked at public libraries in Monmouth, Middlesex and Ocean counties as well as serving as adjunct librarian at Bankier Library at Brookdale Community College.
O’Brien noted that the long-range goal at the Tinton Falls Public Library will continue to be building a new library or a move to larger quarters.
“The library will also continue to be a warm and welcoming center for the community,” she said.
The public is invited to visit the library at 664 Tinton Ave. Donations of books in good condition for book sales
or the library collection is always welcome. Donations toward a new building, as well as other donations, are tax deductible. Interested members of the community may call 732-542-3110 for programs, hours and library card information.
