Taking advantage of its distance-running depth, Christian Brothers Academy regained the Monmouth County Indoor Track and Field championship.
It was a one-two-four finish for 22 points in the 1,600- meter run that paved for the way for CBA’s win Jan. 22 in the John Bennett Indoor Complex in Toms River. The Colts’ 50 points bested Long Branch and Matawan, which tied for second with 36 points each.
Mark Lee led the CBA assault on the 1,600, crossing the line in 4:25.76 with teammate Dan Mykityshyn in tow (4:26.75). William Villa picked up places on the final lap and was fourth (4:35.50).
Lee and Mykityshyn came back and ran the 3,200, picking up eight more points for the Colts. Mykityshyn was third (9:36.93) and Lee was fifth (9:55.92).
CBA picked up an expected win in the shot put. Andrew Rohan had been the county’s best thrower throughout the early part of the season, and the county championships proved to be no exception. He was the only thrower over 50 feet, winning with a 51-0½ put.
Matawan continued its pole vault supremacy with Dylan Spadaccini winning on fewer misses at 12-6. He was the lone Husky champion.
Middletown North’s Luke Zirngibl used a late charge on the final lap to hold off Manalapan’s Kingsley Prophete and win the 800 (2:01.61-2:01.81).
Raritan’s Jackson Bennett won the 55 hurdles (7.53) title.
St. John Vianney finished highest among the area’s girls, in fifth place (28).
The Lancers were led by the second-place finishes of Chelsea Delaney in the 1,600 (5:10.47), Jessica Barnes in the 55 dash (7.48), and the 4×400 relay team (4:15.71).
