The American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association will hold the seventh annual National Wear Red Day for Women, a public awareness day on Feb. 5, urging women and men, businesses, towns, schools, buildings and landmarks to “go red” or “glow red” to bring attention to the No. 1 and No. 3 leading causes of death for women, heart disease and stroke, respectively.
The American Heart Association is also accepting nominations for its fourth annual New Jersey Go Red for Women “Woman of Distinction” award sponsored by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. The award recognizes New Jersey women who have made an exceptional dedication to raising awareness about issues affecting women across the state.
Nominations will be accepted through March 1 in the areas of business, industry and health care; and education, nonprofit, community and civic. A luncheon will be held May 17 at the Palace in Somerset.
