EDC will work to attract business

JACKSON — The township’s new Economic Development Committee is ready to get down to work.

It is the committee members’ hope to develop Jackson’s commercial community, maintain and improve the quality of life for residents, and in doing so, to keep focus with the consistent appreciation of the unique attributes Jackson has to offer to local, regional and national businesses.

“The EDC is very excited to assist the township in developing our community, and like many of our residents, we are keenly aware of the unique attributes our community has to offer,” said Dennis O’Keefe, who chairs the panel. “The EDC is here to work as a team player with township officials and our business partners to promote a progressive and vibrant business climate for Jackson.”

O’Keefe said the EDC members have already had a few brainstorming sessions and are now looking forward to working with local, state and regional organizations to determine how Jackson can become one of the preferred regional centers for existing and new businesses.

The aim of the EDC is to foster opportunities for economic growth within the township, said O’Keefe.

Clara Glory, vice chairwoman of the EDC and president of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, said a program is being created through which current and future business partners will find it sensible to do business with Jackson.

“Through technology and the use of our many resources, Jackson will market to and attract businesses to our community,” Glory said.

The EDC has already initiated the creation of its own website, discussed streamlining its approval process for attracting new business applicants, consulted with other municipalities and regional redevelopment organizations in an effort to create a visible project approval process, and consulted with tax attorneys on potential tax abatements for future business applicants.
