MARLBORO — Students at the Marlboro Memorial Middle School, Nolan Road, are gearing up to take the stage in a production of “Dear Edwina.” The show will be performed on March 4-5 at 7 p.m. in the school cafetorium. Tickets are $10 per person.
The show focuses on teenager Edwina Spoonapple, who lives in Paw Paw, Mich., and is the creator and star of a weekly advice show called “Dear Edwina.”
People from around the world send letters to Edwina and she provides answers to their questions through musical numbers that are performed on her show.
On this day, Edwina is very excited because a talent scout from the Kalamazoo Advice-A-Palooza Festival (the biggest advice giving convention ever!) is going to watch Edwina’s show.
The talent scout is looking for a replacement for a spot being left by Dr. Joyce Brothers and Edwina is hoping that her show will fit the bill.
Succeeding with her show is especially important to Edwina because although her three siblings are all very accomplished, she does not believe that she is accomplished.
However, if the talent scout selects her show, it will prove that Edwina is as talented as the rest of her family.
In the end, Edwina learns an important lesson, that what really matters is not a prize one can hold, but one’s family, friends, hopes and dreams.
The book and lyrics for this one-act, nearly all-girl musical was written by Marcy Heisler, with music by Zina Goldrich.
The show features eighth-grader Camille Crawley as Edwina Spoonapple.
Other cast members are Tage Das, Allison Calvaruso, Emilie Pistilli, Jordan Kugler, Alex Hartman, Ryan Spadola, Michael Milo, Carly Harris, Rachel Kaye.
And, Gianna Limeri, Nicole Heligman, Shannon McDermott, Aidan Benavides, Kyle Hayes, Lauren Weber, Kristen Juan, Alara Gurler, Lindsay Duva, Claudia Jiang, Jenna Schone, Russel Kansky and Kaitlyn Barden.
