FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — No arrest has been made following a mugging that occurred outside an office building at 495 Iron Bridge Road on Feb. 15. Police officers responded to a call for assistance at 7:30 p.m.

Freehold Township Detective William Peace said Police Officer Chris DeAngelo responded to the call. The victim of the mugging was a 22-year-old female who lives in Freehold Township.

Peace said the woman was sending a text message from an electronic device as she was exiting the building.

As she was sending the text message, she was struck across the head and face by an assailant who was later described as being a large black or Hispanic man wearing dark clothing.

The woman’s pocketbook was stolen during the incident. Her wallet containing her driver’s license, credit cards and $180 cash was in the pocketbook.

Peace said the victim could not be certain what her assailant looked like because she was struck while she was sending the text message almost as soon as she exited the building and did not get a good look at him.T

he woman sustained facial injuries which included a large bump on her forehead, a cut near her left eye and a small puncture wound on her left cheek, the detective said.

Peace said the call for assistance was placed to police by a doctor who works in the office building and found the victim. The doctor attended to the woman until she was transported to CentraState Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

According to Peace, a witness believes that a light-colored SUV was seen exiting the parking lot at a high rate of speed at about the time of the mugging.

The case is under investigation by the Freehold Township Detective Bureau.
