Covino’s Ristorante, 2188 Route 130 north, North Brunswick, will sponsor a “Golden Oldies Night” 7 p.m. March 27 at Our Lady of Peace Parish Center, 1740 Route 130 north. Quick Chek, Route 27 and Henderson Road, South Brunswick, will celebrate its fifth anniversary March 8. The store is currently managed by store leader Didi Tapia and employs a staff of 18 local team members.

Middlesex Legal Professional Association (MLPA) will award a $500 scholarship to a qualified Middlesex County resident who is pursuing a law-related career. Keep Middlesex Moving Inc., Middlesex County’s nonprofit transportation management association, is accepting nominations for NJ Smart Workplaces, which honors companies for programs that promote and provide commuting alternatives to their employees. Employers who offer carpooling and vanpooling, flexible work hours, teleworking, or promote mass transit may be eligible for NJ Smart Workplace designation.

The deadline to nominate volunteers for the Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship Program is March 15. Children ages 6 to 18 whose efforts have made a positive impact in their communities can win prizes ranging from Kohl’s gift cards to college scholarships.

Two nominees from each of Kohl’s stores nationwide will win a $50 Kohl’s gift card. More than 190 kids will win regional scholarships worth $1,000 toward post-secondary education. Ten national winners will be recognized with $10,000 scholarships toward their post-secondary education. Kohl’s will also contribute $1,000 to a nonprofit on behalf of each national winner.

Panera Bread of New Jersey matched all donations to benefit the earthquake victims in Haiti with a 50 percent contribution, bringing the total amount to $37,867.50. Out of all participating Panera bakery-cafés in the country, this was the largest donation amount within such a short period of time. All proceeds will be donated to the central New Jersey Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Modell’s Sporting Goods, Route 1, North Brunswick, will hold Modell’s Community Weekend March 6-8. All customers will receive a 10 percent discount off their purchases, and will also get to select from a list of local youth sports programs to receive an additional 10 percent donation, including Monroe Township Soccer, New Brunswick Recreation and the South Brunswick Athletic Association.

Salt Creek Grill, Princeton Forrestal Village, Princeton, will hold a South American wine dinner 6:30-9:30 p.m. March 5, with a portion of the proceeds going to relief efforts in earthquake-ravaged Chile. Guests will enjoy a three-course dinner specially prepared by chef Jason Hensle, along with wine pairings, showcasing wines from Argentina and Chile.

The reception will be prosciutto-wrapped lobster guava skewers, fois gras topped with roasted fruit chutney and Oyster Crudo a L’Ecaille paired with Pascual Toso Sparkling Brut.

The first course will be salpicon, an array of poached and chilled mollusk, including shrimp, mussels, clams, squid, crab and scallop served atop fresh herb citrus ensalada, paired with Lo Tengo Torrontes

The second course will be Cedar Plank Roasted Wild King Salmon with beluga lentils tossed with pickled vegetables, crab and sea salt, finished with a basil emulsion, paired with Montes Alpha Pinot Noir.

The third course will be Sous Vide Prime Aged New York Strip Medallions served with a Goucho Chimmi Churri and sunny-side quail egg and cave aged Gruyere, paired with Achaval Ferrer Malbec and Montes Alpha M.

The cost is $79 per person, and 10 percent of the proceeds from the dinner will be donated to relief efforts in Chile.
