Cream Ridge breeder honored

UPPER FREEHOLD — Fair Winds Farm owner Mark Mullen was among those honored at the 74th annual New Jersey Sports Writers Association Banquet.

Mullen joined Steve Jones, of Cameo Hills Farm in New York, and Standardbred Horseman of the Year Steve Elliott at Pines Manor in Edison on Jan. 31. The team members behind pacing star Well Said were among the athletes, coaches and members of the media saluted at the banquet.

Well Said was born at Mullen’s Cream Ridge farm on March 25, 2006, to the broodmare Must See, a horse Jones and Mullen bought in partnership. Elliott trained the 2009 Three-Year-Old Pacer of the Year that had victories in the Meadowlands Pace, North America Cup and Little Brown Jug. He retired with victories in 14 of 26 starts, and earnings of nearly $2.6 million.
