Police, prosecutor share services

PLUMSTED — Mayor Ron Dancer has announced that the Township Committee is authorizing additional shared services agreements with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

According to Dancer, Ocean County led the state in traffic-related fatalities in 2009. For 2010 a new shared services program is being offered in an attempt to reduce the traffic fatalities in Ocean County municipalities. The program is known as the Prosecutor’s Program.

Under the Prosecutor’s Program, special details of DWI checkpoints and other traffic enforcement activities will be organized using Plumsted police officers with the prosecutor’s office for the purpose of assisting in the investigation, prosecution of fatal accidents, traffic enforcement and education, according to the mayor.

Plumsted’s police officers will be paid through a grant from the Ocean County Board of Freeholders and the state.

The senior pizza lunch and movie day is scheduled for March 19 from noon to 3 p.m. in Plumsted’s senior citizen meeting and activities room on the lower level of the municipal building, 121 Evergreen Road.

The cost is $5, and preregistration is needed (seating is limited) by March 10. Refreshments are served. For more information, call 609-758-2241, ext. 111.
