The Samaritan Center, a food pantry headquartered in Manalapan, will be participating, once again, in the Feinstein Foundation Challenge to end hunger.
Founded in 1991 by Alan Shawn Feinstein, the Feinstein Foundation is dedicated to the alleviation of hunger, the importance of community service in education and the values of caring, compassion and brotherhood.
The foundation will divide $1 million among anti-hunger agencies nationwide based on funds raised during March and April, to offset the typical decline of donations in winter, after the rush of the holidays, according to a press release.
Members of the community are encouraged to donate to the Samaritan Center, which provides food to residents of Manalapan, Millstone Township, Englishtown and Marlboro.
From March 1 through April 30, the more donations of cash, checks and food items received by the Samaritan Center, the more Feinstein money will be given to the Samaritan Center. Food items will be valued at $1 per item or $1 per pound. Donations to this campaign will make the Samaritan Center, the Feinstein Foundation and all contributors partners in this campaign to fight hunger, according to the press release.
The Samaritan Center is at 211 Route 522 (Freehold-Englishtown Road), Manalapan, directly behind the Manalapan Senior Center. Weekly hours of operation are 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. For more information, call 732- 446-1142 or email samaritancenter1@verizon. net.
