Freehold High School baseball staff will conduct a two-day clinic on March 12- 13. Players, parents and coaches are invited to attend. On March 12 the clinic will be held in the Freehold High School gym, Robertsville Road, Freehold Borough, and will run from 6:30-8 p.m. The focus will be on pitching, hitting and infield defense. A competitive, well-established 12U travel baseball team out of Manalapan is looking for one or two dedicated players to complete its roster for the upcoming season and the future. The team has use of indoor hitting facilities and assistance from college coaches. Details: Burke, 732-792-2642.
The Level 5 and Level 6 JOGA teams from Galaxy Gymnastics, Howell, competed in the state championships at Envision Gymnastics, Mount Holly.
For the Level 5 girls, Austyn Antonelli was sixth on uneven bars in the 11-13 age division. In the 14-plus division, Cynthia Viru was fourth on vault and eighth on balance beam.
In Level 6, Ariana Rodriguez was fourth on vault, third on uneven bars and floor exercise, and fourth in the all-around competition in the 14-plus division. Julia Lee was seventh on vault and balance beam in the 14-plus division.

Freehold’s Alyssa Mayrose was the second leading scorer on the Fairleigh Dickinson University women’s basketball team in 2009-10. Mayrose, a Freehold High School graduate, averaged 12.4 ppg. The junior guard led the team in total three-point field goals (36) and was tops in rebounding (5.6 rpg.). The Knights finished the season at 9-20.
Mayrose is closing in on 1,000 career points, with more than 800 points accumulated in her first three years at FDU. At Freehold High School, Mayrose was a four-year varsity letter winner in basketball and soccer. She helped lead the Colonials soccer team to the 2006 Group III state co-championship, the first state crown in school history.
On the hardwood, the Colonials won the Kuhnert Holiday Basketball Tournament and a Shore Conference division title during Mayrose’s career.
