Sections of roads to be resurfaced

Ocean County will reconstruct and resurface portions of several area roads this spring.

“The spring is our busy season when it comes to road improvements,” said Freeholder Deputy Director John P. Kelly, liaison to the Ocean County Engineer’s Office. “As soon as the weather clears, our crews and contractors will be out there ensuring that our road network is as safe as it can possibly be.”

On tap for this spring are milling and paving projects at the following locations:

• Intersection of Hope Chapel and South Cooks Bridge roads, Lakewood.

• Cross Street between Massachusetts Avenue and Route 9, Lakewood (0.6 miles).

• Route 527 from Bennetts Mills Road to Interstate 195, Jackson (3.3 miles).

Each project will mill 2 inches of asphalt and add 2 inches of new pavement. When that work is done, the road surfaces will be striped and marked.

“With 621 miles of county roads and 259 bridges and culverts, we are constantly monitoring and maintaining our road network,” Freeholder Director James F. Lacey said.

A contract for the work is expected to be awarded early this spring. The work should be completed by late spring, according to a press release.
