I want to offer a profound thank-you to our wonderful fire department. As the water from the recent storm rapidly accumulated, they came to the rescue more than once and pumped water from my basement in time to save the furnace and hot water heater (two sump pumps were put out of business by a power outage from Saturday until Tuesday).
The clothes washer and much personal property (even though propped up) didn’t survive, but the situation would have been far worse were it not for their able and timely assistance.
While I’ve long had a deep respect for the invaluable work firefighters and all other emergency responders do, I never experienced flooding until recent years and so I hadn’t come to know our fine fire department folks sooner. The dedicated people I met during the storm were extremely capable, efficient, personable and kind, despite the terrific burdens of their day.
Gentlemen, I can’t thank you enough and hope you’re all getting a much deserved chance to rest, with a break from both fire and water!
