Participants sought for conservation unit

Applications are being accepted for the Middlesex County Youth Conservation Corps, whose mission is “to protect and preserve natural areas from misuse, polluters and the forces of nature” at the more than 7,000 acres of open space owned and maintained by Middlesex County.

Conservation Corps crew members earn $8.50 per hour and will work 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, June 21-Aug. 13. Work will take place primarily at county openspace sites in Old Bridge, Monroe and South Brunswick. Students age 16 and above are invited to apply. Activities will include trail building, litter cleanup, invasivespecies removal and wildlife-habitat improvements. Qualifications include the capacity to walk several miles and stand for extended periods of time, a willingness to get dirty and work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and the ability to use a variety of hand tools.
