Writer says Mayor Reina acts with honesty and integrity

This is in response to the letter to the editor from the gentleman who wrote regarding the March 24 meeting of the Jackson Regular Republican Club (“Writer Questions Mayor’s Response at Republican Club Meeting,” Tri-Town News, Letters to the Editor, April 8).

He was attempting to belittle our mayor and was totally off the mark. It appears that the facts were misrepresented to your readers for the sake of supporting his own personal agenda.

As a member of the Republican Club who was present that evening, I did not recognize the name in your newspaper and later found out that this person (George Johnson) is not a member of the club, nor was this name on the list of guests who were present at that meeting.

I can only surmise that either this person does not want to be publicly identified or this was erroneous second-hand information that was skewed to the intent of the informant.

Your readers need to know that Mayor Mike Reina and team won the majority of votes for endorsement that night. Several others who had screened for this endorsement but did not get it gave their total support to the Reina team. The vote was tallied with representatives of all interested parties present. The Reina team won the vote with a high percentage which was made public at that meeting.

At that meeting Mayor Reina was challenged by a member of the organization and responded in a manner that was honest and sensible, but deliberate and to the point.

He was never demeaning to anyone and certainly not to this individual. I have not only seen Mayor Reina as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather to his new baby granddaughter, but also as a dedicated public servant who has proven his dedication to the best interests of Jackson.
