CHESTERFIELD — A township police officer shot a 26-year-old man after the man attacked another officer with a knife Tuesday, according to officials.
The 26-year-old man was hit “more than once” and was airlifted to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton where he underwent surgery and was listed in critical condition Wednesday morning, according to a spokesman for the Burlington County prosecutor’s office.
The two officers were responding to a report of a disturbed person made by the man’s parents at their residence on Bordentown-Chesterfield Road at about 2:45 p.m., the spokesman confirmed.
”When they arrived, they approached the door, and as did so, they were rushed by somebody who had a large kitchen knife, and he sliced one of the officers on the arm,” the spokesman said.
The officer was treated at the scene for the laceration he received, the spokesman said.
The county prosecutor’s office’s Special Investigations Unit is handling the incident because it is a police-involved shooting. The office did not release the names of anyone involved before the Register-News deadline.
