New Fiber Arts Group meets at Poricy Park

MIDDLETOWN — The Annex at Poricy Park Conservancy has added a Fiber Arts Group to its busy schedule.

Created by local fiber artists Mary Ann Russo and Debby Slavitt, members of Rebecca’s Reel Quilters Guild, the new Fiber Arts Group is looking for creative individuals to come out and play in the world of nontraditional fiber arts techniques and creations, according to a press release from The Annex.

In a fun, relaxed atmosphere of co-learning, the group uses techniques such as fabric painting, dyeing, silk-screen printing and stamping on fabrics to incorporate in art quilts and other work, which is Russo’s focus, while Slavitt is involved in embellishments like beading and stitchery, mixed media, nontraditional materials and clothing and doll construction.

The Fiber Arts Group, a small group within Rebecca’s Reel Quilters Guild (RRQ), meets every Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. Members work independently and also present monthly demonstrations and mini-workshops.

Rebecca’s Reel Quilters Guild will present its 2010 quilt show, “Visions and Dreams,” May 14 and May 15 in the Poricy Park Conservancy, 345 Oak Hill Road, Middletown. There will be a professionally judged display of more than 150 traditional and contemporary quilts, a raffle quilt, door prizes, refreshments and vendors. Admission to the quilt show is $5 for adults; children under 8 years of age are admitted free. For more information, call Maryann at 732- 842-5253 or visit www.rebeccasreel.org.
