MILLSTONE — A 49-year-old woman from Burlington County remains in critical condition after colliding with oncoming traffic on Perrineville Road.
Annemarie Tobin, of Lumberton, suffered serious injuries at 6:30 p.m. April 26 after reportedly losing control of her 2006 Chevy Aveo on a curve, rotating counterclockwise into the westbound lane, and crashing into a 2008 GMC Acadia driven by township resident Cosmo Gazzani.
Gazzani, 47, suffered minor injuries and was treated at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold Township. Tobin was taken to Jersey Shore UniversityMedical Center in Neptune.
The Millstone Township Fire Department, Millstone Township First Aid Squad, Roosevelt First Aid Squad, Monroe Township Fire District No. 2 and the New Jersey State Police responded to the scene of the accident near Perrineville Lake.
Millstone Fire Chief James Carbin arrived at the scene to find Tobin trapped in her vehicle. Millstone firefighters used hydraulic extrication tools to gain access to Tobin.
Millstone Township First Aid Squad and Monmouth and Ocean Hospital Service Corp. paramedics transported Tobin to Jersey Shore Medical Center. The emergency response teams had requested a medical evacuation helicopter to transport Tobin to the hospital. However, weather conditions, including heavy rain, made such transport impossible, according to Millstone Board of Fire Commissioners Vice Chairman Dave Markunas.
The Roosevelt First Aid Squad transported Gazzani to CentraState.
The state police investigated the accident.
