I was amazed to see that $4.1 million had been approved at the joint budget meeting of Princeton Borough and Township for a new swimming pool. I realize that 1 million has been raised and another 1 million is anticipated from current funds and fee increases.
At a time when appropriations to the school budget have been cut back by the state and residents are struggling to pay real estate taxes which have more than doubled in the last 15 years, it seems neither prudent nor appropriate to move forward with a project that appears to be, if not one that is, frivolous.
Put the $1 million in a money market account until such time as the economy for our residents and for our municipality has begun to recover. What part of austerity did this joint committee not understand: $4.1 million dollars?
