The Roebling Garden Club is taking donations of $5 to order a geranium in memory or in honor of a loved one to be placed at the Roebling Circle. You may place your order by call the President of the Garden Club, Loretta Varga at 499-1160. We also have items for you to purchase for Mother’s Day. Loretta has books and milk bottles.
Congratulations to Brittany Logan, Junior at Florence High School and member of the Willitts-Hogan-Tonne American Legion Unit 39 in Roebling. Brittany will be installed as the Department (State) resident of the American Legion Auxiliary Juniors on Sunday, May 16, at the Post, 2 p.m. The Junior program involves girls from birth until the age of 18 at which time they become Senior members of the Auxiliary. The program teaches girls parliamentary procedures and involves them in different projects of the Senior group in which they can help the Veterans and their families plus their community. Brittany is the daughter of Lisa Weldon and Rick Logan. She has been a member for 10 years.
Post 39 and Unit 39 will hold their annual Appreciation Dinner, Sunday, May 23 at the Post on Fourth Avenue at 2 p.m. The officers of Post 39 will be installed for the coming year, 2010-2011. Members who have reached 50 and 60 continuous years of service plus members of the Auxiliary with 50 years of continuous years of service will be recognized at this time. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from Steve Anderson, 1412 Kenny’s Cove, Burlington, NJ 08016 or call 387-2840 to reserve your seat.
Burlington County American Legion Auxiliary Executive Board will have their installation of County officers for the coming year, Thursday, May 20, at Post 39, in Roebling. A short meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m., followed by installation, because the incoming County President, Maryann Lathrop is a member of Unit 39. Other County officers being installed from Unit 39 are Joan Horn, second vice president, and Pat Stojinski, treasurer. Congratulations to the ladies of Unit 39 who have consistently been involved in the program for our veterans, our children and youth and the community.
The Florence Garden Club is again selling red geraniums for $5 each to memorialize a veteran or loved one. These will be placed around the two monuments in town. To order, call Mary Tapper at 499-0361.
The May meeting of the Florence Garden Club will be May 17, 7 p.m. at the Sterling House, 901 Broad St. in Florence. Anyone interested in joining is invited to attend. The dinner meeting originally planned for this month has been rescheduled for the June meeting.
Free health screening, May 17, 6-8 p.m. in the Great Hall, Trinity U. M. Church. Blood pressure check and blood sugar screening will be available. Informational brochures as well as information on obtaining a free mammogram will be available. Coffee/tea and light desserts also provided at no charge. Open to all residents of Burlington County.
The Clarence Cafe, Christian Cabaret/Coffeehouse will be open Friday, May 21, 7 to 9:30 p.m.; live music featuring local artists and open microphone for anyone with a gift to share. $5 donation suggested but not required. Free coffee/tea and light desserts provided.
Special Memorial Day Service honoring our nation’s veterans will be held during worship at TUMC, Sunday, May 30, at 11 a.m. Anyone interested is invited to attend.
Providence Presbyterian Church on Old York Road is having a yard sale on Saturday, June 12, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. All proceeds go to local charities. If you would like to donate items, please bring them to the church, Thursday, June 10, 9 to 11 a.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. or Friday, June 11, 9 to 11 a.m. or 6 to 8 p.m. Thank you for your support. The Florence Township Chapter of Deborah and Rita’s Ice is planning summer treat on Tuesday, June 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. 10 percent of sales will support Deborah Hospital Foundation through the Florence Township Chapter. Rita’s is located at 650 Route 206, Bordentown. Come out and enjoy their special treats and support Deborah.
The Florence Township Yacht Club will be having their second Annual Al King Memorial Catfish Tournament on, Saturday, June 5, which iis a FREE fishing day per NJ law (no license required), to be held at the Florence Township Yacht Club, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Weigh in: noon to 3 p.m. You may weigh in only once. The combined weight of three live catfish determines the winner. Entrance fee, $20 per person fishing. Fee is perperson, not per boat. Lunker fee: $5 100 percent payback for heaviest live fish. Florence resident Don Kamienski is interested in starting a volunteer community group that will meet once a month to perform cleanups at various municipal parks, right of ways, etc. He is seeking individuals who would join his Spruce Up Group. Florence Township Seniors will hold a Bahamas cruise for eight days and seven nights, sailing from Baltimore, Md., Oct. 17 to 24. You receive $100 per cabin on-board credit. Trip includes all on-ship meals, stevedore tips for baggage handling, port charges and taxes, and bus transportation and tips to Baltimore.
