Mr. Horan, 79, of Middletown, died March 11, 2009, at home. A native of Highlands, he was an attorney for more than 50 years and was a partner in the law firm of Applegate, LaMura & Horan. Mr. Horan was also a magistrate for six Monmouth County towns for about 20 years, sitting in Middletown, Hazlet, Keyport, Keansburg, Highlands and Sea Bright. He was most recently a sole practitioner. Mr. Horan was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for most of his life. He served as an altar boy there and more recently assisted on Sundays in various positions. Mr. Horan was a lifelong Democrat and an amateur historian specializing in local history, particularly the Highlands. A brother, Francis Horan, predeceased him. He is survived by a former wife Anne (Nancy) Dobson Horan; a son, Ronald (Ron) Jr. and his wife, Theresa; a daughter, Elisabeth (Lisa) Horan Sockol and her husband, Michael; a daughter, Melissa (Missy) Horan Blanda and her husband, Christopher; a brother, Douglas and his wife, Theresa Horan; four grandsons; a great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Posten’s Funeral Home, Atlantic Highlands, was in charge of arrangements.
