L.B.’s Shuler-Foster doubles at Shore Conference meet

Long Branch speedster Miles Shuler-Foster won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes at Saturday’s Shore Conference Track and Field Championships held at Neptune High School.

The Green Wave sprinter repeated his MonmouthCounty victory from the week before in the 100-meter dash nipping Raritan’s Bennett Jackson, 11.28-11.30.

Unlike the county championships where Jackson came back to beat Shuler-Foster in the 200, the Long Branch sprinter won both dashes. This one was again close, 22.15-22.17 with Shuler-Foster eking out the victory.

Now, Shuler-Foster will set his sights on defending his NJSIAA Group II state title from 2009. The county and conference meets, he noted, were all about preparation for the state meet and also getting himself acquainted with the longer 100 and 200 sprint. The Long Branch junior won the Indoor Meet of Champions 55-meter dash. That race is more explosive than the 100 and 200, which requires more endurance and strength.

Ocean Township’s Mike Andre turned the tables on Matawan’s Brain Ramcheran in the 400 meters. At the Monmouth County Championships, it was Ramcheran who picked up the gold. Saturday, Andre’s 48.33 pushed Ramcheran (48.44) back to second place.

Andre was fifth in the 100 (11.50) with his teammate Jacob Rubinstein (11.67), sixth.

Red Bank Catholic’s Meghan McMullin and Monmouth Regional’s Stephanie Skove added a SC title to their county championships.

McMullin won 400 intermediate hurdles (1:04.18) and Skove scaled 11-6 to win the girls pole vault.

Placing for the girls were: Red Bank Regional’sAiyan James, sixth in the 200 (26.98); Shore Regional’s Cameo Kirk, sixth in the 800 (2:21.60) and fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:06.35); RBC’s Michelle Capozzi, fourth in the 1,600 (5:12.25); Ocean’s Liana Grandinetti, fourth in the shot put (35-3¼); RBC’s Kayla Dunn, sixth in the discus (104-6); and Monmouth’s Tiffani Lee, third place in the high jump (5-2).

Placing for the boys were: Long Branch’s Steve Worsley, second in the 110 hurdles (15.13); Long Brach’s 4×400 relay team of Marcus McKenzie, Shuler-Foster, Karon Hair and Devron Clark, that finished fourth (3:26.64); Ocean’s Rubenstein, third in the long jump (22-0); and Ocean’s Brian Chittum, fourth in the triple jump (44-1).

Matawan’s boys (48) and Southern Regional’s girls (94¼) were the team winners.

This weekend the state championships begin with the NJSIAA State Sectional Championships. Central Jersey Groups I and IV travel to Hillsborough while Groups II and III are at Monmouth Regional.
